letter for 5/19/2011

Rep. Daniel Webster
United States Congress
1039 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

05/19/2011

Rep. Webster:

I have been reading about the profit’s the 5 big oil companies have been reporting and I, for the life of me, don’t understand the rational of the American people supporting them with $4 billion in subsidies. Are they not able to support themselves on the $4.00 a gallon gas that puts a strain on the backs of the average Joe? If the case is that we are supporting their research for more and more oil and gas discovery and production, why then, are we as the American people not reaping a benefit from that research. If our money is paying for their most recent break-through, then why are we not receiving part of the profit they reap from our taxpayer dollars. Let’s face it-this could be $4 billion that we use to directly reduce the National debt.

Enclosed, please find my contribution to the reduction of the National debt (principal, of course) for this week and I look forward to your accepting my ongoing challenge to match the 1% of my income that I am contributing to reduce said debt.

Until next week, I remain waiting patiently for your response:

With kindest regards, I am,

Hastings Henderson
